Core Strategy Consultation Should Be Extended

Councillor Iain Lindley, Prospective Conservative MP and opposition spokesman for Planning on Salford City Council, has called for the Council to extend the consultation deadline for the draft Core Strategy. The deadline for local residents to submit their responses to Council’s draft Core Strategy is this coming Friday, January 15th.

Councillor Lindley said:

“In view of the recent atrocious weather, and the unprecedented public concern about a number of the proposals contained within the document, it seems only right to extend the consultation period so that all Salford residents have the opportunity to submit their comments. I know that in many parts of Salford the post has been unreliable, and the minds of local people have rightly been elsewhere. I would hate to see submissions ruled out-of-order simply because they were posted within the deadline but did not arrive.

It is also disappointing to hear continued reports about the failure of the “Life In Salford” magazine to be distributed properly. This was the Council’s main method of communication with regard to the Core Strategy and if the magazine was not delivered as promised then this clearly merits a consultation extension in itself.

This document sets out the future of Salford over the next few decades, and a couple of weeks delay is a small price to pay for ensuring that all local residents are given every opportunity to comment.”

Conservatives Launch Local Poster Campaign

Your Conservative Prospective MPs Iain Lindley and Matthew Sephton today launched locally the Conservative billboard poster campaign featuring Party leader David Cameron.

The poster features the Conservative pledge to sort out Labour’s debt crisis, whilst committing to support vital front line public services, and in particular the National Health Service.

Councillor Iain Lindley, Prospective Conservative MP for Worsley & Eccles South, said:

“Labour have let local residents across Salford down - we can’t go on like this. Local residents across Salford need a fresh start, and the country desperately needs change to get back on its feet.”

Matthew Sephton, Prospective Conservative MP for Salford & Eccles, said:

“Local people in Salford need a Parliamentary team who are prepared to listen to local concerns, and Britain needs a strong, modern Prime Minister leading a united government. They can only get that with local Conservatives working hard for Salford, and with David Cameron leading a strong new Conservative Government.”

Conservatives Confirm Commitment To Maternity Services

Councillor Iain Lindley, Prospective Conservative MP for Worsley & Eccles South, has welcomed the launch of the Conservative health manifesto, which reaffirms the Party’s commitment to the future of NHS services, and in particular maternity services, in Salford.

Party leader David Cameron has announced that under a future Conservative Government, mothers will have a real choice over where to have their baby, with NHS funding following their choices. Conservatives will also introduce local ‘maternity networks’ to ensure that mothers can safely access the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

Reacting to the announcement, Cllr Lindley said:

“David Cameron has shown real commitment to the NHS here in Salford. It is clear that under these proposals, under a future Conservative Government, the maternity unit at Salford Royal Hospital could and would be kept open if the demand existed from the local community, and I firmly believe that will be the case. Labour are pressing ahead with their decision to close the Maternity and Neo-Natal Units at Salford Royal Hospital, and local residents have a real choice when they come to vote at the election.”

“I’m also pleased that under the new Conservative plans for a health premium, NHS resources for the City of Salford will be significantly higher, providing that Salford City Council and our Primary Care Trust spend those resources effectively”

David Cameron’s New Year Message
