My Pledge To Return Planning Powers To Local Communities

Cllr Iain Lindley, Prospective Conservative MP for Worsley & Eccles South

One of the main reasons for the proposals to bulldoze green belt and greenfield sites across the City - including Burgess Farm and Barton Moss - is that the Labour Government has imposed a 35000 housing target on our local communities in the City of Salford, and similar targets on industrial land. This means that we would end up with the worst of all worlds - unviable flats, unsuitable industrial sites and unwanted green field developments.

A Conservative Government would abolish these unfeasible targets and return the power to decide how many houses we need to local residents. Under a future Conservative Government, it would be up to local people in Walkden, Eccles and Irlam - not bureaucrats in Whitehall - whether sites like Burgess Farm and Barton Moss would be developed.

It might not be enough Iain. The majority of people are probably more interested in Gordon’s latest pledge of a free laptop and broadband connection rather than worry about the environment or area in which they live. Good luck in your campaign. Regards, Eddie
