Councillor Christine Gray has been elected as the new Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group on Salford City Council at their meeting on Monday night (15th September).
Councillor Gray has represented Boothstown & Ellenbrook ward on the Council since 2004 and replaces Councillor Ian MacDonald (Worsley ward) who was recently elected to chair the Transport Network Committee of the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority.
Councillor Liz Hill (Cadishead ward) replaces Councillor Gray as the Conservative Group Chief Whip.
The City of Salford will host three upcoming exhibitions with information about the Congestion Charge and Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) bid, in addition to the exhibitions already held in Salford and Swinton in August. These are:
- Eccles - Morrisons - Tuesday 9th September - 11am until 7pm
- Walkden - Tesco - Thursday 25th September - 11am until 7pm
- Salford - University of Salford - Wednesday 1st October - 10am until 5pm
Salford Conservatives believe that the congestion charging is not the right way forward and also that the “improvements” proposed through TIF are of little benefit to local residents across Salford. It is also very disappointing that there is no exhibition organised for Irlam and Cadishead.
A Warm Welcome To My New Deputy
Leader comment by Cllr Karen Garrido - original published in the Salford Advertiser.
Following Councillor MacDonald’s increased duties on the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority, I am pleased to announce that Councillor Christine Gray has been elected as my new Deputy Leader.
Christine, who was previously Conservative Whip, brings to this post a wealth of experience having run a successive business in Irlam and Worsley, as well as her work in charge of the Shadow Children’s Services Portfolio with which she will continue. Christine will be a great help in helping me and all my colleagues in the fight against the atrocious Labour leadership of this City.
I have also appointed Councillor Liz Hill as my new chief whip. Liz has made her presence felt on the Council since being elected for Cadishead with an excellent attendance record at Council and ward meetings and will greatly strengthen the team.
Finally but not least, arguably one of the most important positions in the group and the Council is the demanding role of the Shadow Lead Member for Finance and Customer & Support Services. This brief is now in the safe hands of Councillor Graham Compton. I know Graham will hit the ground running with his first job - formulating our plans for next year’s budget.
