I have spent a large part of my time on Salford Council listening to the Salford’s Labour leadership ‘NEW LABOUR SPEAK’. However, since Salford Council Meetings are now only bi-monthly, it is a few weeks since I last heard them and I was beginning to miss them.
What has always fascinated me about ‘New Labour Speak’ is their knack of saying one thing but which means exactly the opposite. Let me give you a few examples so that you too can enjoy ‘New Labour Speak’.
The first and best word is ‘CONSULTATION’. This does not mean “here are our proposals, what do you think?” No! What it really means is “this is what we are going to do, and anyone who disagrees is just a troublemaker”.

Last week we had a full Council Meeting which contained some good news but unfortunately also some things which gave me and my fellow Conservative Councillors some cause for concern. Let’s start with the good news!
The Mayor’s Citizen Award, which is given to a person who has done significant voluntary work in the community, was presented to John Camilleri on behalf of the ‘Chris McGuirk’ committee who have raised over £200,000 in twelve months. I felt this was an amazing achievement and I was very proud of the way the people of Salford rallied round in support of Chris, who broke his neck whilst playing the sport he loved – well done John and the committee!
