As Leader of Salford’s Official Opposition I would like to thank the Advertiser for the opportunity to write an article in this weeks paper. It would be easy to get involved in personal name calling and rubbishing both Labour and Liberal Democrats. We feel that as the official opposition we should hold both of them to account within the Scrutiny committees and in the Council Chamber. What we intend to set out today is our vision for Salford.

Our priorities and your priorities are the same, that of a safer city, excellent schools, a clean environment, better roads and care for vulnerable adults and children, we will work with local people to make Salford an even better place to live.

As Conservatives, we believe in local communities - led by local government, but not confined to it. Communities include the church, the sports club, the charity groups and the local businesses. It includes all the private associations that people form - to clean up the streets, or look after the elderly, or give teenagers something to do.
