My Pledge To Return Planning Powers To Local Communities

Cllr Iain Lindley, Prospective Conservative MP for Worsley & Eccles South

One of the main reasons for the proposals to bulldoze green belt and greenfield sites across the City - including Burgess Farm and Barton Moss - is that the Labour Government has imposed a 35000 housing target on our local communities in the City of Salford, and similar targets on industrial land. This means that we would end up with the worst of all worlds - unviable flats, unsuitable industrial sites and unwanted green field developments.

A Conservative Government would abolish these unfeasible targets and return the power to decide how many houses we need to local residents. Under a future Conservative Government, it would be up to local people in Walkden, Eccles and Irlam - not bureaucrats in Whitehall - whether sites like Burgess Farm and Barton Moss would be developed.

Conservatives Launch Local Poster Campaign

Your Conservative Prospective MPs Iain Lindley and Matthew Sephton today launched locally the Conservative billboard poster campaign featuring Party leader David Cameron.

The poster features the Conservative pledge to sort out Labour’s debt crisis, whilst committing to support vital front line public services, and in particular the National Health Service.

Councillor Iain Lindley, Prospective Conservative MP for Worsley & Eccles South, said:

“Labour have let local residents across Salford down - we can’t go on like this. Local residents across Salford need a fresh start, and the country desperately needs change to get back on its feet.”

Matthew Sephton, Prospective Conservative MP for Salford & Eccles, said:

“Local people in Salford need a Parliamentary team who are prepared to listen to local concerns, and Britain needs a strong, modern Prime Minister leading a united government. They can only get that with local Conservatives working hard for Salford, and with David Cameron leading a strong new Conservative Government.”

Conservatives Back Residents Over M60 Widening

Cllr Iain Lindley, Prospective Conservative MP for Worsley and Eccles South, has backed local residents who have raised strong concerns and objections to the Labour Government’s proposals to widen the M60 motorway further.

The proposals, announced by Geoff Hoon MP earlier this year, would see an additional lane put in between Junctions 15 and 12 on the M60. This would increase noise and pollution for residents living alongside the motorway and make the existing accident blackspot between Junctions 13 and 12 even worse.

Iain Lindley said:

“Local communities in Roe Green, Worsley village, Winton, Peel Green and Brookhouse suffer from some of the worst air quality and noise pollution in the country due to their proximity to the M60, and little or no regard has been shown from the Government and the Highways Agency towards the ongoing health of local families.

One of the primary reasons that accidents occur between Junctions 12 and 13 is that traffic coming onto the M60 at Worsley has to cross two lanes of moving traffic to get into the lanes heading on to the Trafford Centre. Under the new proposal this would effectively add a third lane to cross. This is madness - a real accident waiting to happen.”

Iain Lindley Selected For Worsley & Eccles South Seat

Councillor Iain Lindley has been selected as the Prospective Conservative MP for the new Worsley & Eccles South constituency. Iain, who has represented Walkden South ward on Salford City Council since 2004, was adopted by a Special General Meeting of Party members on Thursday night and will now be the Conservative candidate for the constituency at the next General Election.

Speaking to members after his adoption, Iain said:

“It is a huge honour and privilege to have been selected as the Prospective Conservative MP for the new Worsley & Eccles South constituency. I grew up here, attended Walkden High School and I am proud to call it my home.

The communities which make up the new constituency of Worsley & Eccles South have been let down and taken for granted by the Labour Party both locally and nationally - the resounding defeat last month of Labour’s Congestion Charge is just the latest example of just how out-of-touch Labour have become from local needs and concerns.

Local residents from Little Hulton to Cadishead now have a real chance for real change with the Conservatives, and I am looking forward to the challenge ahead.”

Councillor Robin Garrido, Chairman of the City of Salford Conservatives, said:

“I am delighted that Iain has been selected to fight what is now the most marginal seat within the area and I am confident that with the reputation that Iain had already achieved for ‘getting things done’ as a Councillor, many local people will be switching their votes to him and this constituency, for the first time in living memory, will be represented by a local Conservative.”

Following boundary changes, the new Worsley & Eccles South constituency includes the wards of; Worsley, Boothstown & Ellenbrook, Walkden North, Walkden South, Little Hulton, Barton, Winton, Irlam and Cadishead. At the last set of local elections, Conservative candidates held a lead of 12% over the Labour Party across the new constituency.
